The Balnaves Foundation Multimedia Learning Centre is a technology-rich educational environment which exemplifies the student experience at Bond. It provides all students at Bond with access to collaboration-friendly study spaces and the latest audio visual and computer technology in a spectacular location.

Features

The primary purpose of the Global Links Room is to facilitate video-conference and technology-enhanced learning. The room can be booked by both students and staff. Staff can learn more about how this space can facilitate blended learning experiences by contacting the Office of Learning and Teaching.

This specially outfitted room features state of the art computing and communication equipment designed to enhance learning. Fixtures include videoconferencing facilities. There is support for laptops and various games consoles (X Box®, PlayStation®, and Nintendo Wii™) are available for use.

The Digital Media Hub was co-funded by the Balnaves Foundation and the Bond University Student Association to facilitate the teaching of digital media as well as delivering independent learning spaces for students. 

The Studio 

The Studio supports content creation and production, featuring a green screen, HD remote controlled PTZ cameras, 3 point production lighting, a teleprompter and monitors, Apple Mac, quality audio capture and playback facilities and virtual reality (VR) hardware. For further information on the facilities or bookings please contact Ron Kordyban, Technology-Enhanced Learning Coordinator, Learning and Teaching.

Digital Media Stations

12 high end PCs and Mac Pros provide access to a range of software based digital media production, editing, 3D modelling and animation and CAD software.

The Balnaves Foundation Multimedia Learning Centre offers flexible furniture arrangements to allow students to move seating and tables to accommodate group work and discussion, as well as fixed computers. Study booths provide group seating with large LCD screens, Blu Ray DVD players, game console and computers. Wireless controllers and keyboards are available for students to borrow from the Main Library to use in this space. 

More Study Spaces

Computers & printing

Banks of computers provide access to the Internet and the University’s full range of networked resources and applications with space for students to work in pairs or individually. Wi-Fi and eduroam is available throughout the facility. Networked printing is available along with a station for students to add credit to their printing account.

Digital media

Digital media equipment is available for students and staff to display multimedia content. The video wall overlooks the learning space at the entrance end. Enquiries and suitable content for display on this equipment is welcome.

Lockers

12 lockers are available for twelve hour loans, or until Library closing time. Library Services is not responsible for loss of property from lockers. Keys for the lockers are available for loan in the Main Library or Law Library.

Enquiries & suggestions

This learning facility is managed by the Library. We work closely with IT Services and the Office of Learning and Teaching to ensure the facility is of a high standard and meets the learning needs of the University.

Ideas for future technology needs in this space are welcome, and any enquiries about using the Multimedia Learning Centre for special events may be directed to the Library through the Ask a Librarian service.

Balnaves Foundation

Dr Neil Balnaves AO and The Balnaves Foundation have been long-time supporters of Bond University. Dr Balnaves served a six year term as Councillor of the University and is currently a Member of the Board of Trustees and a Community Member of Bond University Limited. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Bond University in 2009 for his commitment and contribution to the media industry, philanthropy and education.

Dr Balnaves has played a key leadership role in the media industry for over 45 years. He previously held the position of Executive Chairman of Southern Star Group Limited which he founded. He is currently the Chairman of Ardent Leisure Group, one of Australia's most successful owners and operators of premium leisure assets.

In 2006, Dr Balnaves established The Balnaves Foundation, a philanthropic fund that aims to create a better Australia through education, medicine, and the arts with a focus on young people, the disadvantaged and Indigenous communities.

In 2008, The Balnaves Foundation generously funded the development of the award-winning Balnaves Foundation Multimedia Learning Centre, a technology rich educational environment which exemplifies the student experience at Bond. The centre provides all students at Bond access to collaborative-friendly study spaces and the latest audio visual and computer technology in a spectacular location.

The Balnaves Foundation is committed to ensure the facility continues to be at the forefront of technology advancements and generously supports ongoing upgrades and the introduction of new interactive technologies.
